NACOSTI STAFF APPOINTED AS A MEMBER OF EASTECO GOVERNING BOARD

Deputy Director and Head of Research Licensing, Mr. Godfrey Pessah Kalerwa has been appointed to serve on the EASTECO Governing Board. Following Article 8 of the Protocol on the establishment of the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO) and the official communication from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Ref: No.2922/09.01/EAC/20): Mr. Kalerwa will serve the EASTECO Governing Board as a Scientist nominated by NACOSTI for a tenure of three (3) years.

Mr. Kalerwa, is an expert on matters of research, science, technology and innovation and has represented the country and NACOSTI in development of national and regional policies. He has previously served as a board member in several organizations such as: Numerical Machining Complex, Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute, and Kenya Industrial Property Institute. He has also served as a Research Officer at the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute, and the Ministry of Research, Science and Technology. Most recently, he served as the Head of Industrial and Allied Sciences at NCST, before his appointment to the current position in NACOSTI, as the Deputy Director and Head of Research Licensing, on 2016. He is also a member of Kenya Chemical Society and Kenya Institute of Management.

The main objective of EASTECO is to promote and coordinate the development, management and application of Science and Technology in the Partner States (composed with the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, the United Republic of Tanzania and the Republic of Uganda). The role of the Board is to provide leadership and vision to EASTECO in fulfilling its objectives. The Governing Board is also mandated to approve the policies of the commission, approve the general framework for the programs of the commission, approve the budget and audited accounts of the commission, receive and consider reports from the executive secretary on the activities of the commission, make decisions for the fulfillment of the objectives of the commission, elect the Chairperson of the Governing Board and Members of the committee for the Board, Determine priorities for regional collaborative research, networking on behalf of the commission and Direct the Secretariat to undertake any tasks that are compatible with the aims and objectives of the commission.
