The Director General of NACOSTI, Prof. Walter Oyawa, met with H.E. the Ambassador of Japan in Kenya, Mr. Ken Okaniwa, on the 7th September 2023 to discuss on possible areas of collaboration in science, technology and innovation. The meeting appreciated the fruitful partnerships between Kenyan and Japanese researchers in the past as evidenced by the exemplary performance of JKUAT, and expressed desire to intensify collaboration taking cognizance of emerging issues and needs. H.E. Amb. Ken Okaniwa stressed the importance of science and technology in uplifting Kenya to the next level, as well as the need for private sector involvement in research and innovation activities so as to expedite uptake of research outcomes.
On his part, the Director General, Prof. Walter Oyawa, sought bilateral collaboration and partnerships in the development and application of green technologies to spur sustainable economic growth in tune with the government’s people-centric transformation agenda. He further expressed on the need to establish joint Research Chair programmes in remembrance of eminent Kenyan trailblazers in science and technology.
