SUBJECT: The region-to-region collaboration in the field of nuclear safety and security acquires a growing importance. Kazakhstan, one of the world’s biggest uranium producer and exporter, has remarkable experience to share in nuclear governance not only with the rest of Central Asian region, but worldwide, including Africa. This is illustrated by multi-country partner projects, comprising a study visit of Southern African nuclear regulators to Kazakhstan in the framework of an EU -funded project, implemented by the International Science and Technology Center, based in Nur Sultan.

DR. TIMUR ZHANTIKIN Director of Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plant, LLP

DR. TIMUR ZHANTIKIN is the Director of Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plant, LLP. As a Fellow at the Institute of Nuclear Physics in Almaty, he conducted experimental research on radiation effects in solids including construction steels and special alloys used in nuclear reactors, and in amorphous alloys. He holds a PhD degree in Physics and Mathematics. From 1995 to 2018, Dr. Zhantikin served as the Director General of the Kazakhstan Atomic Energy Committee, the national nuclear regulator, responsible for nuclear safety and security, application of the IAEA safeguards, nuclear export and import control.
